Spirituality, Mindfulness, and Meditation

Spirituality, Mindfulness, and Meditation

All hunter-types can benefit from some form of regular meditation practice. It can slow us down, calm our nerves, improve our overall health, and increase our ability to focus for longer periods of time. In fact, studies have shown that meditation can actually increase dopamine levels.

Additionally, meditation is about cultivating “awareness.” We all have choice, in every moment, as to whether we’re in “the driver’s seat” of our life, or just a passenger to cause and effect.

If we’re lacking in awareness, we’re much more prone to unconscious reactions and behaviors, which often lead to suffering — both for ourselves, and for those around us. Meditation strengthens this muscle of awareness to help us stay in the driver’s seat.

Just about every meditation practice contains one basic directive: rest your attention on a single object, and keep it there for an extended period of time. Whether it’s a repeating phrase (prayer, mantra, chant, etc.), or focusing on a physical sensation (like your breath), meditation begins and ends with single-pointed awareness.
