Long Description:

What if ADHD (in most cases) is a neurological type, not a disorder? Since 2015, our ADHD podcast has been instrumental in changing the conversation around adult ADHD, offering a powerful new framework for neurodivergent minds—a perspective first introduced in the foundational and widely read books, The Drummer and the Great Mountain: a Guidebook to Transforming Adult ADD / ADHD and ADHD Time Management.

A pioneering voice in the neurodiversity movement, podcast host, author and ADHD life coach Michael Joseph Ferguson is known for coining the term “hunter-type”—an empowering reframing of ADHD that builds upon Thom Hartmann’s Hunter-Farmer Theory to define it as a distinct neurological type.

This framework draws on insights from evolutionary psychiatry and evolutionary neuroscience to offer a new operating manual for our unique brains.

With a global community that spans the United States, Canada, the UK, Australia, Norway, Ireland, Sweden, the Netherlands, and all parts in between, this podcast has been at the forefront of a perspective that science is now beginning to validate: viewing ADHD not as a disorder, but as a distinct neurotype with powerful advantages.

Each episode, Michael offers actionable strategies and insightful conversations that go beyond generic advice. Together, we’ll explore:

  • Our “Hunter-Type” Wiring: How to leverage our inherent creative tendencies, hyperfocus, and out-of-the-box thinking to survive and thrive in the modern world.
  • Soulful Creative Expression and Self-care: The “unplugged” life can be very nourishing to our nervous system. We discuss the necessity for proper self-care to reduce anxiety and ADHD symptoms — losing less time in distraction and procrastination, and gaining more time doing what we love.
  • ADHD Time Management: Techniques that work for how our brains are wired — working with our natural tendencies (including our perceptions of time) and not against them.
  • Nature Connection & Neuroscience: The science of how connecting with nature can reconnect us to the superpowers of our ancient nervous system.
  • Mind Mapping for the ADHD Brain: A powerful and intuitive alternative to linear notes and overwhelming to-do lists.
  • Expert Insights & Lived Experience: Candid conversations with leading artists, authors, and innovators aiming to decode the neurodivergent experience—from its unique challenges to its creative superpowers.
  • Real-World Success Stories: Inspiration and practical advice from thriving neurodivergent individuals.

ENCINITAS, CA – June 21, 2025 – As local high school graduates and college students face mounting academic demands, Encinitas-based ADHD coach and author Michael Joseph Ferguson is launching a timely online workshop to teach a critical success skill: Mind Mapping. The live workshop, titled “ADHD Mind Mapping,” is scheduled for Saturday, June 28, and is designed specifically to help students with ADHD and executive function challenges transform how they take notes, manage assignments, and stay organized.

“People with ADHD really struggle with managing their hyper-creative brains,” says Ferguson, a pioneering voice in the ADHD neurodiversity movement and host of the popular podcast “Adult ADHD ADD Tips and Support.” “Mind mapping is the tool I wish I had been taught in high school. It provides a more intuitive method of organizing and arranging thoughts. It’s the antidote to traditional outlining techniques and I’ve seen it become a true game-changer for people with ADHD.”

The live online workshop is designed specifically to help students with:

  • Planning out their day
  • Breaking down overwhelming tasks and projects
  • Mapping out essays and complex assignments

Mind Mapping is a scientifically-backed approach to learning. Studies in publications such as the Journal of Applied Cognitive Psychology have shown that visual note-taking techniques can significantly improve long-term memory retention and the ability to synthesize complex information. This method is particularly effective for neurodivergent minds as it leverages creativity and non-linear thinking.

In addition to the live instruction, all participants will receive lifetime access to a mind mapping software program specifically tailored for people with ADHD.

The workshop is also open to any adult who struggles with task overwhelm, and a “Bring a Friend” option is available.

Workshop Details: Main Session: Saturday, June 28, 2025 | 12:00 PM – 2:30 PM Pacific Time Follow-Up Q&A: Tuesday, July 1, 2025 | 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM Pacific Time (Optional Q&A and make-up session)

Space is limited to ensure a quality, interactive learning environment.
